South Korea's Flu Vaccine has Another Problem, and 610,000 Doses have been Urgently Recovered!
According to South Korean media SBS, the influenza vaccine Kovax Influ 4ga PF Injection (PFS) produced by Korea Vaccine was found to contain white suspended solids. The Korean Food and Drug Safety Agency urgently ordered it to recall the vaccine in question on the 9th.
On the 6th of this month, white suspended solids were found in the vaccine of the Yeongdeok Health Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do and reported to the Food and Drug Safety Department.
An investigation by the Food and Drug Administration found that the white suspended solids were composed of 99.7% protein and 0.3% silicone oil. After consulting relevant experts, the Food and Drug Administration stated that there is no problem with the efficacy and safety of the vaccine.
Professor Choi Won-suk of the Department of Infection Medicine at Korea University Ansan Hospital said that the possibility of pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site will be further increased, but the possibility of systemic abnormal reactions will not be high.
Although South Korea’s Ministry of Health and Anti-epidemic said that the vaccine had no safety issues, and stated that the vaccine was transported and stored at an appropriate temperature. However, the Department of Food and Drug Safety requires 4 manufacturing units to voluntarily recall 615,000 vaccines.
More than 17,800 people have been vaccinated with the vaccine, and so far only one person has reported pain at the injection site.
The national influenza vaccine vaccination program, which was completely interrupted by this vaccine safety accident, will resume on the 13th of this month from 13 to 18 year olds.
