Britain Calls on the Elderly and other 'High-Risk Groups' to Apply for New Coronavirus Vaccine Volunteers

According to a Reuters report on the 17th, the British government called on the elderly and other 'high-risk groups' to sign up for the new coronavirus vaccine trial, hoping to speed up the search for an effective vaccine to protect people, especially high-risk groups, from troubles of the new coronavirus.

The British government said on the 17th that more than 100,000 people have signed up for the new coronavirus vaccine trial in the U.K., but more volunteers are needed to determine whether the candidate vaccine is effective for everyone.

Kate Bingham, chair of the vaccine working group led by the British government, said that the participation of 100,000 volunteers is a great start, but to find a vaccine requires a more diverse group of volunteers, especially those over 65 years old and first-line medical staff, as well as volunteers from ethnic minorities such as African Brits and Asians.

According to the report, a study last week showed that in the UK, minority ethnic groups are 2-3 times more likely to be infected with the new coronavirus than whites, and the mortality rate is significantly higher than that of whites.
