Russia's New Coronavirus Vaccine is Expected to be Licensed for Russian Civilian Use in Mid-September and can be Vaccinated for the Public
According to Russian media reports on September 4th, Logunov, Deputy Director of Russian National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology in Gamaleya, Russia, said that the Center is expected to obtain circulation permits for civilian use of the new coronavirus virus vaccine from September 10 to 13, and then vaccinations for the people can begin.
According to the Russian Satellite News Agency, Logunov said in an interview with the 'Russia 24' TV station, 'It must pass the quality inspection of the Russian Federal Health and Social Development Supervision Agency. From the 10th to the 13th of this month, we will obtain a civil circulation permit. At that time, we can start vaccinating the people.'
He pointed out that the vaccine will be distributed to medical institutions by the Russian Ministry of Health. But he also bluntly said that the center's capacity may not be able to produce the necessary number of vaccines, and may not be able to meet the national demand, so large-scale production has begun on three platforms.
The Russian Ministry of Health registered the world's first vaccine for the prevention of new coronavirus infections on August 11, which was jointly developed by the Gamallea National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The vaccine was named 'Sputnik V'.
Dmitriev, president of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said that the fund has received applications from more than 20 countries to purchase 1 billion doses of vaccines. He also pointed out that Russia has agreed to produce vaccines in five countries, and the current production capacity will reach 500 million doses per year.
