Scientists Discover Breakthrough Drugs that can Completely Neutralize the New Coronavirus
According to the researchers from the Pittsburgh School of Medicine recently made a scientific breakthrough that may help people get rid of the new coronavirus pandemic. Specifically, the researchers successfully isolated the smallest molecule that can completely neutralize the new coronavirus. Scientists will now use this molecule to help create a drug for humans, currently called Ab8, that can completely destroy the virus that causes COVID-19 and prevent it from replicating in humans.
One of the benefits of Ab8 is that it is extremely small. Researchers say this is beneficial because it can spread more easily in tissues. Its small size also means it can be used in many ways -- including inhalation. In addition, studies have shown that compared with other new coronavirus therapies currently being tested, it is less likely to have side effects on the human body because it does not bind to a single cell.
John W. Mellors, one of the co-authors of this study, said in an interview, 'Ab8 not only has the potential to treat COVID-19, but it can also be used to prevent people from being infected with SARS-CoV-2. Antibodies are also effective against other infectious diseases and are well tolerated. This gives us hope that it may become an effective treatment for COVID-19 patients and protect those who have never been infected with the virus and have no immunity.'
So far, Ab8 has only been tested on mice, so it remains to be seen whether it is equally effective in humans. To this end, clinical trials will begin early next year, but based on the early results, scientists seem confident that they will make significant progress.

At the same time, in the United States alone, the number of new coronavirus cases per day is still hovering around 40,000. It is obvious that humans may not be able to escape this pandemic until several safe and effective vaccines and other drugs are developed. However, a potential problem with the new coronavirus vaccine is that the first vaccine may only be effective for 50% of the time. Most importantly, the first batch of vaccines authorized for emergency use is likely to require individuals to inject at least two doses.
In view of this, U.S. CDC Director Robert Redfield recently stated that wearing a mask may be more effective than a vaccine in preventing new coronary pneumonia. Speaking of masks earlier this week, Redfield said, 'We have clear scientific evidence that they are effective. Compared with getting the new coronavirus vaccine, this kind of mask is more guaranteed to protect me from the new coronavirus.'
He continued, 'These masks are the most powerful public health tool we have. I call on all Americans to embrace these facial coverings.'
