The Dutch New Coronaviurs Vaccine Company Starts the Third Phase of Clinical Trial
The Dutch vaccine company Janssen Vaccines has begun testing the new coronavirus vaccine on 60,000 volunteers in the United States, South Africa and some South American countries. The vaccine was developed in Leiden, the Netherlands, and is one of six vaccines already ordered by the European Union.
In the third phase of the vaccine trial, thousands of people over the age of 18, including a large number of elderly people, will use the drug in countries and regions where the virus is still widely spread, and some will receive comparison drugs. According to this research, it is necessary to prove whether the vaccine can adequately protect people, and whether it produces side effects and their degree.
Janssen Vaccines, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, is not the first company to enter the third phase. The other three companies that have reached an agreement with the European Union have already started the third phase of the trial. Several companies in China and Russia have also started vaccinating thousands of volunteers.
During this period, Janssen Vaccines has begun to produce vaccines, and it is expected that the first batch of results will be born early next year. If all goes well, the company can apply for a license to sell in the E.U.
An E.U. negotiating team has reached an agreement with the company on behalf of the E.U. to provide 200 to 400 million doses of vaccines to European countries next year. The conditions are still under negotiation. According to the agreement, the vaccine will be fairly distributed among European countries that need it.
In addition to the Phase 3 trial, the company also plans to conduct a separate study in the U.K., where participants will receive a double dose of the vaccine. Although the third phase has begun, the second phase of the Dutch investigation is still ongoing. In the past month, 135 volunteers in the Netherlands received the drug.
Janssen Vaccines pointed out that in some cases where other vaccines can only be stored at very low temperatures, the vaccine can be stored at minus 8 degrees Celsius for three months and at minus 20 degrees Celsius for two years. The company wrote, 'This will allow the use of standard vaccine distribution channels.'
