American Infectious Disease Expert Fauci : Even with a 'Half Effective' Vaccine, the New Coronavirus Epidemic could be 'Fully controlled'

'India Express' news on August 16, the top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the new coronavirus vaccine cannot be 100% effective, but even a half effective vaccine is enough to effectively control the epidemic within a year, and restore normal production and living order.

Dr. Fauci said that if a vaccine can be developed early next year as expected, the new coronavirus epidemic may be 'fully controlled' by the end of next year.

'If the vaccination is in 2021, I believe that by the end of 2021, we will return to normal as much as possible." Dr. Fauci said on the PBS News Hour. 'One thing that needs to be clarified is that the new coronavirus virus cannot be eradicated. In the history of the world, the only virus we eradicate is smallpox. But we can try our best to contain the new coronavirus epidemic so that it will not interfere with our normal life, economy and employment.'

'I don't think it will be 2024." When asked if the epidemic will continue until 2024 as some people say, Fauci responded. 'Of course, if we can't handle it properly, if there is no safe and effective vaccine, this situation may last for several years.'

In an earlier comment, Fauci said that the effectiveness of the new coronavirus vaccine may be 50% or 60%, and the possibility of reaching 98% is unlikely, which means that the public can never give up public health measures.
