United States Recruits Overseas Scientists to Test the New Coronavirus Vaccine and Promises Participating Countries to Get Supplies
On August 13, Reuters reported that the Trump administration’s new coronavirus vaccine program is recruiting scientists in South Africa and Latin America to conduct clinical tests on vaccines supported by the United States, and promised that their country can easily obtain any trial success on the product.
Six government officials and scientists said that researchers in South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and Argentina are discussing joining their American counterparts to begin large-scale human testing of Johnson & Johnson's experimental vaccines from next month.
The United States has allocated nearly 11 billion USD to fund the research and development, testing, production and storage of the new coronavirus vaccine. In addition to Johnson & Johnson's vaccines, the US government is also cooperating with Moderna, Novavax, and AstraZeneca to conduct large-scale Phase III clinical testing.
The test requires the recruitment of tens of thousands of volunteers. The scientists involved said that it is logical to test the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine in different populations and in different countries. US health officials expect a successful vaccine development in early 2021.
